BRAND REVOLT™

November 2008 The dog & bone* by Pantone Pantone is finally flexing its consumer muscle with new ingredient branding collaborations. After years of respect from designers and those with an over zealous stationery fetish, Pantone is now moving into more mainstream segments of the market. They have recently coloured mugs. And now phones. Softbank (Japan) has released a range of 15 handsets each individually coloured by Pantone. The level of ingredient branding is rather superficial (colour and trim), but it does enable Softbank to add value to a relatively basic design. Less clear is the role being played by the cute dog.
